Applicant FAQ

Application

We target US-based undergraduates (freshmen, sophomores, and juniors) who identify as Black, Latinx, and Native American.

Candidates must currently be attending an accredited, four-year, US college or university. Transfer students from a 2-year school must have a GPA at their 4-year school and SEO may request a transcript.

A GPA of 3.2 or above from an accredited, four-year college or university is required for competitive candidates; Candidates with a GPA of 3.0 will be considered. Freshmen may apply in their fall semester without a GPA. We also take your SAT or ACT scores into consideration, as do our partner companies.

All majors are welcome.

We don’t screen all candidates. If you’re selected to move to the next stage, we’ll notify you via the email address provided on your application. Remember to check your spam folder for correspondence from .

Once you apply, we’ll process your application and may follow up to request more information, invite you to participate in additional conversations, and more. The process will vary based on your profile and interests.

Scores and Transcript

You may include an unofficial transcript when submitting your application. This can be a printed grade report or an “official” transcript issued to student. We require an official transcript before admitting you to the program (either sent directly or issued to student). Email or mail that document when you’re invited to screen.

Your official transcript should be included with your application. We must have your official transcript on file in order to make a final decision on your candidacy. In some instances, we may also request an updated transcript with your fall semester grades. If you transferred schools, please upload all relevant transcripts or email them to .

Program

Timeline

We review applications for Edge on an ongoing basis and candidates are selected to receive career prep resources, training, and coaching year-round. Candidates seeking summer internships with our partners are reviewed throughout October through April and make selections on a rolling basis.

Note: You may apply at any time to Edge for professional development support, beginning in your freshman year of college.

Once you apply the typical response time is 24-48 hours. You’ll need to verify your email. Within one-two weeks, you’ll be enrolled in Blackboard and asked to complete an initial assessment. If you’re a fit for SEO and SEO is a fit for your goals, you’ll proceed to Phase 1: Edge (Interview Readiness) to prepare to compete for partner opportunities. This includes coaching, training resources, interview practice, and access to industry professionals and events.

If you accept an internship with a sponsoring partner company, you’ll proceed to Phase 2: Success (Internship Support) to help you land a return offer. This includes coaching, training resources, interview practice, attending the SEO Career Summit and access to industry professionals and events.

Internship Questions

Participation in Edge doesn’t guarantee an internship offer or automatic matriculation into Success, but it greatly enhances your chances.

No, acceptance to a partner internship program doesn’t guarantee acceptance into Success. Candidates are still required to apply for Career and participate in the program to be considered for acceptance into Success.

SEO assists trainees with obtaining internships in two ways; by sharing resumes with our partners, and through direct referrals to specific opportunities. In both instances, the partner may contact you directly to invite you to interview.

The Career Summit is a mandatory training open only to SEO interns. This usually takes place a week or two before the start of the summer internship and seeks to provide interns with additional professional development, technical and industry knowledge, and networking opportunities.

This training is currently virtual due to COVID protocols but is usually in-person in NYC.

They can email a recommendation to us at . The alum should include his/her contact information, employer, and Career year. The letter should address the following items:

    • Why have you taken an interest in this student’s candidacy?
    • Are you knowledgeable about the applicant’s academic achievements or extracurricular activities? If yes, comment on specific accomplishments.
    • Provide a candid assessment of the applicant’s strengths and weaknesses.
    • Identify some of the applicant’s qualities that make him/her an outstanding Career candidate.
